Custom Letterpress Art + $150 Minted Giveaway {Closed}

I'm not sure what it is, but parents are the hardest to shop for when it comes to gifts. When I saw Minted's new custom art it hit me that something completely personalized would be absolutely perfect! Rowan is their only grandchild and even though he isn't quite advanced enough to draw them a picture yet, we can definitely use his hand and footprints!

I love the idea of creating a letterpress or foil print from your own design. Honestly you will make some mama or grandma's heart so happy with a personalized gift like this!

To start, I prepped myself with some paper, a baby-safe stamp, a scanner, and way too much confidence. Turns out, my almost 10-month old wants nothing to do with getting his hand and footprints done.

Shocker, right? If we did manage to get him to sit still long enough by bribing him with puffs, he thought it was hilarious to curl his toes or try to grab the paper. It was pretty darn cute but needless to say I had to go to plan B and use his newborn prints.

First I scanned Rowan's prints from his baby book, uploaded it to Pixlr Editor (kind of like a free version of Photoshop), and copied just the hand and footprints onto a white background.

If you're babe cooperates with the prints or you use a picture they have drawn, you can skip this step and just scan it onto your computer!

The next step was picking the orientation of my art and uploading the print to Minted, which was definitely the easiest part of this little project.

With the letterpress art, you can pick from tons of colors for the print but I went with black to keep with the original hand and foot prints.

Since these were Rowan's newborn prints, I thought adding Rowan's birth information would be a fun addition to his name at the bottom. So I shared the information in the "Special Requests" section for the Minted design team to review and I'm so happy they created my vision during the proofing process!

It's safe to say I'm crazy about how it came out and I'm totally jealous I didn't get myself one! They aren't the exact size of his original prints but they are pretty close and so, so precious.

How cute is the whitewashed herringbone pattern on this frame?! I've never purchased a frame from Minted but I couldn't pass this one up.

And because Minted is awesome, they are giving you a chance to win $150 credit! Use it for custom art like a drawing, wedding vows, a portrait of your first home, or even holiday cards!

To enter, follow this link and enter your information. You have until December 17th to enter. Good luck!

Happy Friday {+ Blue Sky Planner Giveaway}

Happy Friday, friends!

Well, we made it through another crazy summer week. Its hard to believe it's almost August! I swear one of these days I'm going to get my act together to blog more regularly, I'm hoping a new planner will help me do the trick!

I mentioned earlier this week that I'm obsessing over these gorgeous planners by Day Designer for Blue Sky Planners! They teamed up to design affordable, chic planners exclusively for Target. (Because we needed another reason to shop at Target, right?!) They come in all sorts of stripes, floral, and geometric designs, but I'm partial to that floral one below!

Ruby Stripe Planner, Blue Casebound Planner, and Peyton Create Your Own Planner c/o Blue Sky Planners

I honestly can't get enough of these pretty planners to keep myself organized, especially now that things are a whole lot more hectic with a baby.

There is something about physically writing my schedule and to-do list down... I'm so much better at following them versus using apps on my phone. Anyone else the same way?

I'm loving the schedule, to-do list and "top three" sections on the weekly pages. They are perfect for keeping me on track with work, errands, blogging, and even meal planning which I'm hoping to get back into!

And because I know y'all would probably rather win a pretty planner than read more of my rambling... enter below to win you choice of a Day Designer for Blue Sky Planner below! You have until July 29th to enter, good luck!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Rowan's Birth Announcements + $150 Minted Giveaway {Closed}

I'm so excited to share Rowan's birth announcement with y'all today! I used Minted for our Save the Dates and multiple Christmas cards, so it was only logical to use them to send our kid's cute face to all of our loved ones. True to form, the quality was perfect!

I was debating between a few options (see them all here!) but ended up loving the On Display announcements the most! I just loved the classic look.

I used Minted's free recipient addressing option which made this new mama's life infinitely easier. I can't recommend it enough! We already had the addresses saved in our account from using the free addressing with our Christmas cards so it was a breeze, but Minted makes uploading them really easy too.

I also added our return address so it took me less than 10 minutes during one of Rowan's naps to get these ready to mail!

Lucky for you guys, Minted is generously giving away $150 to one lucky reader! You can use it on birth announcements, foil-pressed stationary (love this Paris inspired option!), or even some Easter photo cards!

One winner will be selected next Thursday, March 26th. Good Luck!

Obsessed :: Sweet N Swag Moccs and Bow Ties + Giveaway {Closed}

Its no secret I love sharing my favorite small businesses and Etsy shops on the blog, but Sweet N Swag may just take the cake. Affordable moccs. Tiny bow ties. Miniature suspenders. Be still my heart!

 All American Moccasins. Grey Chambray Bow Tie.

Still can't get over how cute these are... I'm counting down the days until I can put them on Rowan! (Anytime now kid!)

I stumbled across Sweet N Swag on Etsy while looking for some mini bow ties for Rowan. I love how these ones are adjustable so your babe can wear them from the newborn stage until 9 months. You can get larger sizes for both toddlers and adults, and there are about a million color and pattern options here! (Hello wedding parties!!)

Sweet N Swag also has the most affordable baby moccasins out there! I mean, $20 for hand made baby moccs?! Too good to be true, right?

Picking a color was so tough but I went with the All American moccs, which are a grey-ish denim, rather than leather. Y'all... these moccs are SO well made and even have a little liner inside so the baby's foot isn't directly on the leather or denim!

Did I mention these come in the cutest packaging ever?! I'm definitely going to be scooping up some of the other colors. I've got girl mama envy over here just from seeing the gold and peach moccs!

When I read that Shannon, the owner of Sweet N Swag, actually started her shop to help raise money for a friend who lost their son, I knew I had to reach out. Talk about a big heart! And she was sweet enough to send along a bow tie for today's giveaway!

This one is for the boy mamas, those of you with nephews, or friends with a little man that would no doubt look adorable in this brown chambray bow tie! Its adjustable so it will fit newborn through 9 months.

Winner will be announced February 3rd! Good luck!

Disclosure: I received complimentary products from Sweet N Swag. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own....
In fact, I am genuinely obsessed with this shop! Thanks for supporting the brands that make this blog possible!

Favorite Etsy Shops for the Babe + Giveaway!

Happy Tuesday, friends! We took full advantage of the gorgeous cool weather here this weekend by opening the windows, painting the nursery (more on that tomorrow!) and treating ourselves to dinner on the water Sunday. It's safe to say we're soaking in all the Fall-ish temps we can get here!

Having the nursery painted and the babe's dresser redo complete has gotten me so excited to organize Rowan's growing collection of itty bitty leggings, onesies, bibs, and hats. I have been holding off on making some purchases for him until we had some resemblance of organization in his closet, so I have a feeling his collection is going to grow a bit in the next few weeks!

We've bought some little rompers and pants from stores like Baby Gap and H&M Baby, but my absolute favorite so far is Etsy. I thought for sure it would be tough passing up the cute bows (and it definitely is), but there are so many cute things for boys that I wasn't expecting to find!

I also love supporting the small businesses on Etsy, most of which I have found are ladies like me but with much better sewing skills/creative abilities and super cute kiddos of their own.

So today I thought I'd share some of my favorite shops so far and some items that I can't wait to get my hands on!

Alex & Ally
Shop for: Bibs, Teethers, Hats, and Paci Clips
I love all of the fabrics in this shop and the quality is fantastic. Plus her turnaround time is quick if you need something last minute for a baby shower gift! I'm loving the more modern take on bibs with these drool bibs, they look so cute on little boys especially.

Leggings {The Sweetest Thing} (love these too!), Moccasins {Stiches and Soles}

Sweetest Thing Legging
Shop for: Leggings and knot headbands
I can't wait to get those leggings on our little guy! I love this shop because the leggings are really well made and they are affordable.

My other favorite shops for leggings are: Little Peanut Threads (love these!), Hold You Me (super cute fabrics), and Sugar Plum Baby (leggings + burp clothes)

Stitches and Soles
Shop for: Moccasins
I love these baby moccs! They are so well made, affordable (compared to other moccasins out there), come in tons of color options, and the leather is super soft!

Jon Jon {Classic Stitches STL}, Bubble Romper {Bunnylu Designs}

Classic Stitches STL and Bunnylu Designs
Shop for: Monogrammed items, Rompers and Jon Jons
It's official, I have a thing for Southern seersucker with monograms. I can't wait to get my hands on these adorable outfits for Rowan!

Mint Green Knot Hat {Little Highbury}

Little Highbury
Shop for: Baby Hats and headbands
I admit I hate passing up all the cute bows and headbands but the little knot hats are so cute for baby boys. I love all the fabric options in these shops! Also love Beau Hudson for slouchy beanies.

Grey Gingham Closet Dividers {Sew Sweet Stitches Baby}

Sew Sweet Stitches Baby
Shop For: Fabric closet dividers
I've shared these before but just wanted to mention them again because now that I'm into organizing Rowan's clothes, I love that these are fabric and not plastic. They are really well made and the turnaround time was quick, another great shower gift option!
__

I can't wait to see all of these on our little man! I know he'll be wearing super hero shirts and mini basketball shorts in a couple years but until then, I get to dress him :)

I know I'm missing some great shops out there, mamas- which ones are your favorites? I know I'd for sure be buying up Willow Crowns headbands if we had a girl on the way!

Because I love y'all for all the sweet comments and well wishes since our announcement and the baby advice fellow mamas have shared, I teamed up with Alexandria from Alex & Ally for a fun giveaway! If you've got a little one or have a baby shower you'll be heading to soon, enter for this adorable (and gender neutral) organic teething ring!

Orange and White Natural Wooden Maple Teething Ring

Winner will be announced October 13th, good luck! Major thank you to Alex & Ally for working with me on this giveaway! Don't miss the rest of the cute items in her shop!

Five on Friday: Valentine's Day Edition!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Even though the snow missed us, this week has been surprisingly eventful. On Wednesday we lost power for a good 7 hours thanks to some weird rain that somehow turned into ice but only on the trees and power lines?! Luckily the power came back on before I delved into the unopened bag of jumbo marshmallows... and I don't even like marshmallows. Eek.

So that was our excitement this week! As usual, I'm linking up with Christina, April, Darci, + Natasha for another dose of Five on Friday. These Friday posts are quickly becoming my favorite of the week!

Team Teddy

I had my assistant pose for a photo since I'm guessing y'all would rather see a cute dog than me in my yoga pants and glasses.

Today I'm joining the "5 on Friday" crew in helping to spread the word on Menkes Syndrome, a rare genetic disease that affects approximately 1 in 450,000 male babies. It breaks my heart to see what Teddy, his family, and what other families have experienced, and it truly shows that as a momma, you have to trust your gut! Read this if you don't know what I'm talking about and pass along Teddy's story!

Super Soft Cookies

You know those really soft sugar cookies you get at the grocery store? My husband loves them so I surprised him by making some from scratch! I halved the recipe since Lord knows we don't need 5 dozen of these in the house, but they turned out so good! I think I can find a better icing recipe, but this cookie recipe is definitely here to stay! You can also check out our festive Valentine's Day pancakes here.

Cheap, Festive Gifting

My husband and I decided not to do gifts this year because we'd rather spend the money on our trip next month, but I couldn't not get him something. So along with making his fave cookies, I got him some beer, his favorite candy, and a pillow. I know, random, but he needed one so why not?

Post-Valentine's Date: Brunch

Picture via Hominy Grill
I've got a hot date tonight with dinner at home and wine, but tomorrow we're heading downtown to Hominy Grill for brunch! We've been living in the South for 7 months and have yet to go out for brunch somewhere (gasp!) so tomorrow is the day!

Coffee Koozie Giveaway

This week I joined forces with some fab Etsy shops, I Talk of Dreams and Skittish Coyote Studio, for a fun, festive giveaway for all of the coffee and tea lovers out there! I Talk of Dreams is also offering a discount for all of you, bonus! Follow the prompts to enter (it's easy!) and find the coupon code here!

Also in case you missed it, I guest blogged this week on Kristan's lovely new blog, Lavender and Light. I hope you'll show her some love, and enjoy my slightly serious list of how to "survive" your first year (or two or three) of marriage!!

Now, who is ready for Spring and St. Patty's Day?! We'll be having a very Italian St. Patty's, but you better believe it will still be festive around here!

Have a great weekend with lots of love!! XO

DIY Gold Leaf Christmas Print + Giveaway Winner

First I want to congratulate Kaleigh C. for being the winner of the Evermore Paper Co. giveaway!! And thank you to all of you who entered the giveaway, shared which cards were your favorite, and for following Home Sweet Ruby in general. I feel so fortunate to have the best readers ever!

I don't know about you all, but I'm loving all of the gold foil prints you can find on Etsy. The problem is, I'm not spending $20 or more on an art print, at least not now. Call me cheap or blame it on paying for Christmas gifts and a Europe trip... either way I found this tutorial and decided to give it a shot.

I'm happy with the way it turned out considering I also don't have $300 for a silhouette machine. That would have made this much, much easier. It's actually possible to get the gold more smooth than mine looks, but my hands were getting sticky and I figured that would do! Also, with this method you are limited as to what kind of font to use and your design so eventually I may end up purchasing a gold print after the holidays.

Without counting the picture frame with mat, this project cost me $4.35 and I have tons of gold leafing paper left for more projects.

What you need:
2 Pieces of Cardstock Paper: $0.75 (One piece will be covered in gold foil so it doesn't matter what color it is)
Exacto Knife: Owned (You can get these for a few bucks at any craft store or use a box cutter if you're desperate, just be careful!)
Cardboard: Owned, this is only used to protect your surface while cutting the paper
Gold Leafing: $3.60 (with 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby)
Spray Adhesive: Owned

First print your design on your cardstock. I used a thick, but relatively simple font from Word. You don't want anything too thin or cursive because if you're like me, you'll totally lose your patience when cutting it out. I changed my font color so it was a light grey outline and it wouldn't be too noticeable if my cutting wasn't great. Which, in case you're wondering, I'm terrible at regardless of which tool I use!

Cut out your letters with the exacto knife, making sure to save the little pieces of paper from the inside of certain letters, like the "R" in my project.

This is where I stopped taking photos because I figured the spray adhesive and my camera were not a good combination! It's pretty self explanatory though...

Once you have all of your letters cut out, lightly spray your other sheet of cardstock with spray adhesive. Be careful with the gold foil, it will stick all over your hands and will break apart easily. I used the paper sheets that come in between each leafing sheet to press it to the sticky cardstock.

Spray the back of the cardstock with the text, and stick it to the paper with the leafing.

Finally, spray the back of the pieces from your letters and stick those in place. You may be able to use some other kraft glue, but I was too lazy to get it out and just dealt with the stickiness of these itty, bity pieces of paper. A tweezer helped me get them in the right spot.

Put in your frame and display. Festive!

Anyone else loving the gold prints out there lately?

Currently Loving

Today I'm joining forces with the Five on Friday ladies to share my favorites from this week! Yay for Friday!

ONE. Cozy blankets and a fire in the fireplace.

Wednesday night it dipped into the 20s here (brrrrr!) so the hubs and I had our first fire in the fireplace, complete with wine, Revenge Season 2 (still catching up!), and a cozy puppy by our side. My husband also had his first s'more ever.... WHAT?! I still don't understand how he never had a s'more in the last 28 years of his life!

TWO. Transitioning to Christmas decor.

Christmas music has been on while I work this week, fall decor is coming down, and the house is starting to have a little more sparkle to it. The tree will wait to go up until after Christmas, but I want to come home to some Christmas colors after Thanksgiving. This is much earlier than I normally decorate but I can't help it this year!

THREE. Embroidered tree skirt and stockings? Yes, please.

Picture via PB: Pottery Barn Velvet Stockings

This week Pottery Barn had free monogramming and shipping on some of their Christmas tree skirts and stockings. I really had my eye on these solid red beauties, but they weren't part of the sale, so I compromised. With the free embroidery, shipping, a 15 percent off coupon, and a gift card, I got 3 stockings and the tree skirt for $55. Hells yes. Oh and yes, we got the small pointed stocking for Ruby!

FOUR. Target Dollar Section.

My paper goods obsession is getting out of hand. Thanks a lot, Target. I just couldn't pass up these cute metallic goodies this week. I can't wait to see what else they fill those bins with on my next trip! (Insert my husband rolling his eyes...)

FIVE. Winter Accessories.

I have plenty of hats and scarves but that doesn't keep me from coveting this pretty J. Crew zigzag striped scarf and the matching hat. I'm also loving these cable knit boot socks, talk about cozy!

And finally, the Evermore Paper Co. Giveaway!

This week I teamed up with Ashley of Evermore Paper Co. to give one lucky winner their choice of super chic greeting cards. Make sure to enter here, it's very easy! Nothing better than free things that you get to pick out yourself, right?!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend, see you here next week for all of the festive goodness I've got planned! :)
